Between 1982 and 1986, Lepage raced on the short tracks of the Northeast, primarily Catamount (VT) Speedway and Thunder Road in Barre, Vermont. In 1987, Lepage formed his own race team and competed on the American-Canadian Tour (A.C.T.) through the 1993 season. Wins came in the Milk Bowl at Thunder Road in 1989 and 1993.

Between the 1994 and 1995 seasons Lepage and his team moved south and formed their Busch Series team in order to further pursue his racing career in NASCAR?s southern series. Kevin posted his first Busch Series pole award at Dover (DE) Downs in May and won his second career BGN race at Bristol (TN) in August of 1998. He returned to the Michigan International Speedway in the No. 16 Primestar Ford for Roush Racing to contend in the Winston Cup race event. In his second race back, he captured his first career top 10 finish at Bristol Motor Speedway. Kevin went on to better that with a 6th place finish in the October Charlotte race. To wrap up the year, he finished second in the 1998 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year race.
